G'day candle lovers! Are you ready for a lavish Gourmande candle experience? Let us guide you on the path to the perfect burn.
Trim that wick:
Before you light up, make sure to trim your wick to 1-2mm and remove any carbon buildup. A long wick or excess carbon can cause a strong and high flame, resulting in an uneven burn. Keep your wick trimmed for an optimal and safe burn. All Gourmand Candle came pre-trimmed by us, but you will have to trim the wicks in future burns.
Trimming your wick is crucial for maintaining a healthy flame and even burn. If your wick is too long, it may mushroom, which is normal but will cause your candle to burn faster. Keep your wick trimmed to around 2mm above the wax surface and remove any carbon buildup around the wicks using a paper towel.
If you don't trim the wicks or remove the carbon build up, the flame will be very high and can be dangerous. If you trim the wick too short, it will take much longer to reach maximum melt pool. It take 1-2 tries before you can visually familiar with the correct wick length. But in any cases, a short wick is always more preferable than a long and dangerous wick.
The First Burn Ritual and Why you should do it:
It's important to perform the first burn correctly before lighting your candle, and this apply for every candle, not just ours. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the jar, creating an even melt pool before extinguishing the flame. This typically takes 2-3 hours for a full melt pool to form. When the full melt pool is formed, that is when the candle maximum scent throw is achieved. We designed Gourmand Candle so that this process only take ~1.5 hours.
If you don't let the melt pool reach the edge, the candle will tunnel. Candle tunneling is when a candle burns down the center, leaving wax along the sides. If the tunnel is too deep, there are chances that the candle couldn't be used anymore. Please reach out to us for help if this happens.
Less is more:
We recommend burning your candle no more than 4 hours each session to ensure a longer candle life. The scent should linger for an additional 30-45 minutes after the candle is extinguished. But if you do want to keep filling your space with Gourmand scents, we recommend lighting another candle and keep them burning alternatively.
Candle safety:
- As with any candle, there are hazards and warnings to keep in mind. The container (jar) can become hot, so be careful when handling your candle after it's been burning for a long time. If you want to hold the candle, hold on the part where the wax hasn't melted yet, but use your own judgement.
- Always keep your candle on a heat-resistant surface and away from drafts and flammable materials. Please be mindful when placing candles within children and pets playing area.
- All Gourmand Candle contain metal wick tab under the bottom of the container. Under no circumstances should Gourmand Candle product's be microwaved. If you want to remove the remaining wax and reuse the jar, please use the oven or other methods easily found online.
- Follow the maximum burn time of 4 hours per session and stop using it when only 1cm of wax remains (or around 10% of the total wax). This is applicable for most container candles, not uniquely to Gourmand Candle.
- Never leave candles burning unattended.
- Our candles use cotton wicks, so any hard physical impact, or strong wind, will off-center the burning wick. This could lead to an uneven melt pool, and/or damage to the glass container (cracking). If your wick become off-centered, simply recenter the wick.
- Failure to follow candle safety can leads to catastrophic results such as fire, injuries and in extreme cases, death.
- Remember, scent is subjective, and candle care is essential for a safe and enjoyable experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
